A Kmart shopper has managed to solve a common caravan problem using a popular $14 item from the retail store. Taking to TikTok this month, content creator and caravan renovator @mindfulgreta shared a video showing how she made DIY curtains for her camper.

Greta said she decided to swap her roller blinds for curtains as they were too heavy and had fallen off the wall a few times, and wanted to make them herself in an effort to save money. Rather than purchasing fabric from a fabric store, she bought a green linen look tablecloth for $14 from Kmart.

“I turned these tablecloths into these linen curtains for our caravan,” she said in the video. “It was such a simple DIY, and I highly recommend it if you're looking for a cheap alternative to curtains for your caravan or even your home if you really want to.”

She explained that the tablecloth was “perfect” for her van as it was already hemmed on the sides so she only had to add a slit to insert the curtain rod.

“It was such a quick, simple process to get this happening,” she added. “They are so pretty and so cheap and so simple. I even made one for where our fridge is going, because fridges are not pretty and the first thing you see when you like look into our van is the fridge.

“10 out of 10, highly recommend.”

Greta has been documenting her vintage caravan renovation on TikTok over the past few months, from installing the walls and ceiling lights to mounting lights and towel rails. The mother-of-three has also sanded the floors, painted the fixtures and helped install bunk beds with her husband

In one video, she detailed the six safety items they had installed in their caravan. These included fire extinguishers, a carbon monoxide alarm, a fire alarm, a safety shut-off switch for their electrical, a fire blanket, and a first-aid kit.

She also posted a reveal video showcasing the before and after footage of their vintage caravan, which they named Betty.

Greta recently shared another video on Instagram detailing how she and her husband have made caravanning with their kids “easier”.

In addition to ensuring that their children have separate beds “where they can’t see each other”, she’s also installed a toilet in a cupboard “to avoid those late night adventures”, purchased a rechargeable night light, and has a box of Lego for “quiet time”.

“One week of being away in our van Betty and I’m so glad we had these sorted,” she wrote. “I’ve been brainstorming a few more ideas to have things run more smoothly but honestly I think a lot comes down to the ages of our kids right now, time will tell.”
