Any camper knows that one of the pitfalls of tent life is constantly losing things, especially if you have kids. “Mum, where’s the sunscreen?” “What about the bug spray?” “Where did you leave the toothpaste?”

It’s enough to evaporate the serenity out of even the most tranquil camping spot. However, one Kmart shopper has discovered a solution, and it comes in the form of a simple $8 item.

The budget retailer's Clear Behind the Door Shoe Storage Rack has a near-perfect review score, with people praising its affordability and ease of use.

One shopper, in particular, praised the product, saying it’s “great for camping” and can “hold all the essentials - bug spray, sunblock, torches, mozzie coils, etc.”

“Great hanging hooks which can attach anywhere, we’ll be hanging it on gazebo walls for easy access. Plenty of large clear pockets so you can see all your items,” they added.

Now, in these expensive times, we love a find that can be used for more than one thing, and this nifty little item definitely goes the distance because once you’re home from your camping trip (or even if you never went on one), there are many more uses for it.

Aussies have been sharing their hacks for the clear shoe rack online and one popular use is storing swimmers.

“Stoked! Kmart shoe rack has saved my sanity over what was a basket full of togs!” wrote one woman sharing a photo of the $8 item in action.

“I have a throwing-out-old-bathers-hoarding problem. Some of these are decades old but still wearable,” she joked, writing: “Also have a buying-new-bathers problem.”

The comments applaud the idea, with one woman admitting: “I have 16 pairs at present and love this storage idea.”

Because the shoe rack can hang up anywhere there are plenty of other clever uses for it.

“I use one attached to my wall next to my makeup table for all sorts of makeup and hair-related things, and the bottom row is all my hair stylers,” said one comment.

“Great for scarves too,” said another.

“I use this for all my bottles in the pantry,” said a third.

And there’s no end to the uses for it if you’ve got a houseful of kids.

“My daughter stores her little boy’s cars in one of these,” commented a grandmother.

“I might decide to store my daughter's random things she collects while out and about,” said someone else, while one clever mum noted that the 24 pockets make it perfect for use as an advent calendar.

A teacher even jumped in with her idea for the Kmart find.

“Great classroom hack for teachers for hats and water bottles,” she wrote.

Creator Jasmine Kim has also previously recommended the shoe rack on TikTok, citing it as a handy solution for packing clothes for toddlers when travelling. The clever mum explained that she had organised each row of the rack into categories such as pjs, dresses and tops before folding the rack up and popping it into her suitcase.

So whether you're a keen camper or someone who is looking for a smart storage solution for your home, it sounds like you'd better run, not walk to Kmart!
