Purchasing artwork can be one costly exercise, with some large canvases costing upwards of $200. But one Kmart shopper has come up with a budget-friendly, incredibly simple hack using an everyday product to create your own large custom canvas artwork.

Sharing her impressive before and after photos, she revealed how she gave her bathroom a modern update in no time using a $10 bed sheet from the budget retailer. The end result was one that impressed her fellow Kmart shoppers.

“I got sick of my canvas in my bathroom but liked the size of it, so I had a bright idea,” she explained in a Facebook group dedicated to Kmart hacks and decor ideas.

Freshening up her dated original canvas, she took the new single quilt cover and placed it over the top of the old print, stretching it around and stapling it in place.

“I’m so happy with the results,” she shared. She even had enough of the material left over to create a matching lampshade in her living room.

Her remarkable before and after post quickly racked up over 100 comments, with several home DIYers praising her hack as “pure genius”. Some even said they were keen to give the hack a try themselves.

“OMG!! Great Idea!!! Thank you!! I have a canvas with which I could do this!” one person commented.

“Well done. Love it when people recycle by thinking outside the box. You can save a lot of money using your imagination,” said another.

“How clever are you! I would never think of that. Looks amazing,” a third added.

Despite an outpouring of adoration for her idea, some questioned whether it was suitable for the bathroom, with concerns over whether the material would go mouldy after a while.

“Looks amazing! Love the new look. Can I please ask how these go in a bathroom with the moisture?” One person questioned, with another adding, “Would that not be a good place for mould to grow?”

However, several others assured them there was a simple solution. One suggested simply spraying the fabric with Scotchguard, while another suggested using cheap patterned shower curtains from Shein to achieve the same look.

For some, the hack wasn't so new, with one woman saying she had been doing this for years to save money on decorative art throughout her home and even created seasonal decor using different types of fabric.

“I did this years ago with Christmas fabric. Now, I just bring the canvas out at Christmas time,” she shared of her clever idea.

“I have purchased a few canvases from the bargain bin at Spotlight and do the same with colourful prints,” a second person shared with another, saying, “I’ve done this too. It’s such a great idea when you can’t find what you want”.

Another woman revealed that she had done something similar to old canvases in her home but used wallpaper instead of material.
