Things started off strong, with Samuel L. Jackson dressed as Uncle Sam to introduce Lamar's set and offer further commentary throughout.

SZA served as the first musical guest, joining Lamar for the seventh track in his setlist: "Luther," a song on Lamar's latest album, GNX, and remained as the two performed "All the Stars," which they recorded for the Black Panther soundtrack.

Serena Williams was also spotted dancing on stage during the set, joining Lamar and his expert dancers for "Not Like Us."

Then, for "TV off," Lamar was joined by record producer Dijon Isaiah McFarlane—AKA Mustard. Lamar's "Not Like Us" served as his first number-one as a producer.

With Jay-Z's Roc Nation helping to produce the performance, it makes sense that some thought his fellow rapper would join Lamar on stage, not to mention the fact that they've recorded more than one song together.

Jay-Z also once hailed Lamar as "a once-in-a-generation artist and performer."

"His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision," Jay-Z said of the "Humble" artist. "He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come."

He was also spotted with wife Beyoncé—with some fans also dreaming about the two offering a take the on her track "America Has a Problem"—and daughter Rumi ahead of the start of the game, seemingly all but cinching the deal.

However, Jay-Z remained in his seat for the show.

Fans were also hopeful for a Timothée Chalamet cameo, too, after the pair teamed up for a promo video for the big performance, with the rapper driving the actor around in his car while they chatted about making art.

“Just being a fan of your music forever and knowing like, look where you’re at now,” Chalamet told the rapper at one point. “It’s just crazy, Super Bowl Halftime Show. You just keep climbing, bro. It’s like amazing.”

And, while Lamar's collaborator Taylor Swift was in attendance to watch beau Travis Kelce play with the Chiefs, she also remained in her suite for halftime.
