Watch Harry Connick Jr.'s High-Energy Super Bowl Performance
The Super Bowl celebrates the best players in the NFL, but the event has also become a showcase for popular musical acts. This year, the championship game is a celebration of New Orleans, and who better to kick off the occasion than Crescent City native Harry Connick, Jr.
Lady Gaga performed "Hold My Hand" on Bourbon Street, Jon Batiste sung the National Anthem, Lauren Daigle and Trombone Shorty joined forces for "God Bless America," and Ledisi sang "Lift Every Voice and Sing." Kendrick Lamar will take the stage for the halftime show.
Harry Connick, Jr., was accompanied by the Southern University Human Jukebox Marching Band to perform a rousing rendition of “Go to the Mardi Gras.” The song was first released by Professor Longhair in 1949. New Orleans will kick off the annual celebration in just a few weeks on March 4.
This wasn't Harry's first Super Bowl appearance. The jazz singer performed the National Anthem before Super Bowl XXVI in Minnesota in 1992. When he announced the news on Instagram, his fans said, "Harry should be the halftime show!!!" and "he sure should!! That’s his city
And the best talent possible to perform!"
