Kayla Itsines shares transformation photo of a different kind
Fitness star Kayla Itsines is known for her flat stomach and rock-hard abs, but has revealed she’s embracing her post-baby body.
Kayla is used to sharing her own fitness journey with her millions of followers online, as well as the journeys of others within her Sweat and BBG communities.
But having recently welcomed her first child into the world, she has shared a ‘transformation’ photo of a different kind.
“If I am honest, it is with great trepidation that I share with you this very personal image. Every woman's journey through life, but especially pregnancy, birth and healing post-birth, is unique,” she wrote alongside the image shared on social media.
“For me, regardless of how my body healed post-birth, I felt it was really important for me personally to embrace, appreciate and celebrate my body the same way that I tell all the women in this community to celebrate their body.”
The Sweat founder said her focus right now is celebrating and appreciating what her body has been through and enjoying time with their baby girl, Arna.
“As a personal trainer, all I can hope for you ladies is that you feel encouraged to do the same regardless of whether you have just given birth or not, celebrate your body and the gift that it is,” she added.
The happy arrival
Kayla and fiancé Tobi Pearce officially welcomed baby girl Arna into the world at the end of last month.
At the time Kayla shared a sweet image on her Instagram of proud dad Tobi holding their new bub.
“In that second, we heard her cry for the first time, the doctors and nurses examined her quickly, bought her over to us and said ‘she is absolutely perfect’,” Kayla wrote in the post.
Pregnancy journey
Kayla has been sharing her pregnancy journey with her 11m followers online and sharing pregnancy safe modifications to her workouts.
Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle before the birth, Kayla revealed how much her fitness routine had changed.
“In terms of fitness so much has changed. I was doing high intensity [plyometric] training – so all that jumping you used to see on my Instagram has stopped,” she told us at the time.
“I’ve also stopped using heavy weights and I monitor my heart rate now. I never used to do that previously. I try and stay between 125-150bpm. And my workouts are sometimes closer to 20 minutes. I aim for three days, I do sometimes get to the third day, but two is also enough now.”
Kayla also shared a full-body pregnancy workout with Yahoo Lifestyle, that incorporates four bodyweight exercises to help maintain strength and fitness.
Next up, a wedding
The couple have been engaged since April 2018, after Tobi popped the question.
“I obviously said YES to spending the rest of my life with my very best friend,” she wrote when she shared the news.
Currently the wedding is on the cards for 2020.
“For the wedding we’re wondering if we do it in Greece, or Sydney because it’s pretty, or Adelaide. Definitely next year. And we’ll have a flower girl sorted,” Kayla told Yahoo Lifestyle previously.
