Katie Holmes Paired a Fall-Ready Plaid Trench Coat With Polarizing Pants

She's the queen of autumn.

Katie Holmes is so much more than her Dawson's Creek character Joey Potter, or her penchant for cozy items—she is a fashion icon, and tends to thrive the second the weather dips to a certain chilly temperature, as evidenced by her recent autumnal outfit.

The actress was spotted taking a stroll in New York City while wearing two essential fall staples: a floor-grazing plaid coat and chunky brown boots. The coat featured a mustard yellow, black, and brown checkered pattern, while Holmes kept the rest of her outfit relatively simple.

Underneath the coat, which she wore open to let the back panels of the jacket flow behind her in the breeze, the 45-year-old donned a plain white baby tee and a polarizing choice for pants: leggings in a solid black shade. While the jury is still out on whether the stretchy bottoms classify as pants, Holmes tucked the leggings into the chunky brown boots, and accessorized with brown aviator sunglasses and an oversized, camel-colored leather tote bag that was slung effortlessly over her arm as she took a phone call.

Holmes's weekend stroll isn't the first time that she was spotted wearing the plaid coat. Back in January 2021, the actress was seen wearing the jacket out and about in New York City while spending time with ex-boyfriend Emilio Vitolo Jr.

Instead of wearing the jacket open, she wore it belted at the waist with a white crew neck shirt, chunky black loafers with slouchy grey socks, and far less polarizing pants (classic blue denim jeans).
