Winter footwear can feel a bit limiting. So many of my favorites—pumps, ballet flats, and mules—get put on the backburner in favor of warmer and more practical boots. But there’s one style that we should be reaching for more in these cold months, and while typically considered spring’s ‘It’ shoe, Katie Holmes and Naomi Watts seem to agree.
The two actresses were spotted wearing classic white sneakers this week. But they weren’t the ultra-thin Adidas Sambas or Vans we’ve grown accustomed to seeing celebs wear. Rather than reaching for those lightweight styles, both opted for thicker, more heavy-duty designs, with Holmes wearing Autry’s Medalist sneakers and Watts donning Løci’s editor-approved Fusions.

Like Holmes’s sneakers from Autry, these have that throwback, basketball-inspired look that makes any pair of jeans or wide-leg slacks look instantly cooler. Plus, a shopper who walked more than 80,000 steps in these while traveling reported that the sneakers are “extremely comfortable and durable.”

For the logo-weary, shopping for sneakers can be difficult, but I found a pair that’s practically unbranded at Madewell. For the first time maybe ever, people will actually have to ask you where your sneakers are from. But not only are these more low-key than other styles, they’re also really soft, with shoppers calling them the “most cushioned” court sneakers they’ve ever worn.
