Julia Fox braved a bold beauty move for the new year.

At the Jan. 16 New York premiere of her upcoming movie Presence, the model-actress debuted a fresh new look. She did the pixie cut herself, she told Page Six, and was inspired by Jim Carrey's famous alter ego Ace Ventura.

“I was going for Ace Ventura, like sleazy guy, I don’t know, I’m just into that right now," she told the outlet on the red carpet.

The pet detective's voluminous quiff goes through multiple phases throughout the 1994 film — from the outlandish hair-horns to a neat, structured swoop. For Fox to achieve any of Ventura's iconic looks, she had to brave a huge hair change.

"It was a long time coming. I’ve been wanting to do it for a long time," she said of her new do. "And you know, sometimes in life, you just gotta take the plunge and do it. It’ll grow back, it’s just hair.”

Ahead of the premiere, Fox shared the moment she cut her own hair. Though she captioned the video, "Immediately regretted it," fans in the comments gave her tons of support and said she always looked good.

Before this new cut, Fox had been sporting silvery-purple mid-length hair.

Though her new cut might be shocking on anyone else, Fox is no stranger to bold style choices. In April, she shared with PEOPLE her favorite fashion moments — some of which included lots of skin, a 'body bag' and a tail.

Fox told PEOPLE one of her favorite outfits thus far in 2024 was her wedding-inspired attire at a Thom Browne event at Sotheby's from January, which featured a sheer white blusher with ruffles, a dress with a big front cutout that exposed her stomach and upper thighs, and a black string thong. She finished off her fun spin on bridal fashion with white lace gloves and a small handbag.

"I was like, great, I'll put the veil on and it'll cover my boob," she said. "I just happened to have little gloves and the bag, and the bag said, 'Till death do us part.'"

She added, "Looking at the photo, I do wish that I would've maybe made sure the thong wasn't twisted, but it's okay."

One month before sitting down with PEOPLE, Fox sported an imaginative sheer catsuit, complete clear sequins and tinsel springing from her arms, wrists, back and ankles. She didn't stop there — her hair reflected the subtle silver of the outfit, as did Fox's makeup. She wore a shiny silver face paint on her cheeks and either side of her forehead.
