Jude Law Reprises His ‘Holiday’ Role—Kinda Columbia Pictures/Everett Collection

It’s been almost 20 years since The Holiday hit theaters and became an instant romantic Christmas classic, and while fans have always been hungry for more, they’ve been left out in the cold—until now. Jude Law teased a Holiday sequel this week, after reuniting with the film’s director Nancy Meyers.

At a lunch celebrating his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Jude reconnected with The Holiday director for the first time since the film’s 2006 release. And, lucky for us, Nancy shared a video of their sweet reunion on Instagram. In the video, after congratulating the actor on his big accomplishment and noting that they hadn’t seen each other since the release of the film 18 years ago, the director is heard asking, “I’ve seen you interviewed a lot, and they keep asking you if there’s going to be a sequel, what do you think?”

Jude didn’t answer, opting instead to grab a cloth napkin and raise it over his face. Someone off-screen then handed him a pair of glasses so that he could become the beloved Mr. Napkin Head (spoon pipe not included). Spoiler alert: I am happy to report that Mr. Napkin Head has not aged a day.

Of course, putting on the napkin and glasses again is a far cry from actually committing to a Holiday sequel, but Jude isn’t opposed to the latter. Asked a few weeks ago about the possibility of returning to the character of Graham Simpkins, he told E! News, “Of course I would.” That said, he had some conditions.

“We’d have to be led by the great Nancy Meyers,” he went on to add. “She’s unique in her filmmaking. She’s not just a writer, director, but she creates that sort of aesthetic, that world and you see it in her other films.” Condition number two? It would have to be Christmas-themed. “You don’t want to see them on a holiday in the sun.”

So, we know Jude’s down, but what about his castmates? Following a 2022 report that she had signed up for a sequel, Kate Winslet provided a not-so-promising update, telling People, “I promise you not an agent or a representative or anyone from the first one around has had any conversation with me about that. Hand on heart, that’s never come up.” Nancy also denied the reports at the time.

Meanwhile, Jack Black forgot he starred in the movie not too long ago, and Cameron Diaz is only now re-entering the acting world, having spent the last few years focusing on other endeavors, so who knows what her feelings might be.

As to what a sequel would look like, Jude said he’s just as eager for answers as the rest of us, especially given that the movie had a happy ending for not one, but two couples! “I’m curious, just because there were two very sweet couples and it would be interesting to drop back in now, and just see what they are doing.” You and me both, Jude!
