Josh Altman is leaving Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles, PEOPLE confirms.

"We just felt the time was right," Altman tells PEOPLE exclusively. "We’ve kind of been on the fence the last couple years about if we kept pushing through. It was a very tough decision and it’s bittersweet for us."

The final call was only made in the last few weeks, Altman says, but it was informed by the last several (very busy) years.

"Since season 15 aired, and now that we’re on a pause, Heather and I have had some real quality time with the kids . . . We’re just at that point in our lives where our family comes first and our kids are growing up so fast. We just have to cherish every moment and take it in."

He also notes that his exit has "nothing to do with relationships on the show," nodding to the tensions between he and co-star Josh Flagg seen in the most recent season.

Instead, he says, "It has to do with us. We’ve done it. My wife’s been on that show since she was 20 years old. I’ve been on that show since I was almost a new real estate agent. We are different people than when we started the show. We were babies when we started the show. It’s time to kind of close that chapter."

And while he says another show is "not even on my radar" he's on good terms with everyone involved in creating MDLLA. "We love our fans and the team behind the show and the producers and the people we do it with. . . We feel so blessed that we were part of something changed the game."

The celebrity real estate agent has starred on the long-running Bravo realty series for 13 years, encompassing 11 seasons. Altman joined the cast for the show's fourth season, which premiered in February 2011, and most recently appeared in season 15, which concluded in September 2024.

He also appeared in the spinoff Josh & Josh, which documented his rivalry-turned-sometimes-friendship with Flagg in 2021.

In recent seasons, Altman's wife, Heather, has also become a more central figure on the show, which delves into the personal lives of the power brokers as they balance family with competing for eye-popping listings.

Bravo had no comment when contacted by PEOPLE. TMZ was first to report the news.

Ahead of the season 15 premiere, Josh and Heather told PEOPLE fans should expect a "rollercoaster."

“It's always going to be fresh because it's real and it's the market and what we're dealing with, but also on the personal side,” said Josh, who leads the Altman Brothers team at Douglas Elliman with Heather and his brother Matt.

sneak peek of the season showed Josh declaring, “There’s going to be some turbulence,” and he clarified to PEOPLE that he’s referring to both the market and the cast’s personal relationships.

Some of our relationships that gradually got better, better, better have now gone back the other direction,” he said.

Outside of MDLLA, Altman has bought and sold homes for numerous A-list clients, including Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Britney Spears and Calvin Harris.

The last agent to exit the franchise was another longtime star, Fredrik Eklund, who appeared on Million Dollar Listing New York and Los Angeles. He announced his departure in January 2022, explaining it was 'time for the next chapter."

"After an amazing 11 years, I've decided it's time for the next chapter in my life, and to leave Million Dollar Listing. It's an end of an era and a new start for me," he began a lengthy post, which delves into his decision.

James Harris and David Parnes also departed after season 13.

It's currently unclear if Bravo plans to expand the cast for a 16th season as Josh Flagg and Tracy Tutor are currently the only remaining cast members.
