"He's The Beating Heart Of The Family": Jonathan Bailey Discussed How Excited He Is For Luke Thompson To Lead "Bridgerton" Season 4
It's only been a few months since Bridgerton Season 3 wrapped, but I'm going to be honest: I am still having a Bridgerton summer.
Of course, Bridgerton returned this year after a two-year wait with Season 3, which focused on Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope's (Nicola Coughlan) love story. As of July 3, the season became Netflix's 10th biggest English-language series, with a reported 91.9 million views and counting.
From the carriage scene to the mirror scene and everything in between, Bridgerton Season 3 was one of the most talked about shows this year, so it's no surprise that fans like myself are already eager for ANY information about Season 4.
In July, Netflix officially revealed that Season 4 will focus on Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and his search for love. The season will be an adaptation of Julia Quinn's third book, An Offer from a Gentleman.
And as with the previous Bridgerton seasons (and books), while another Bridgerton sibling will become the lead character, that doesn't mean we won't see the previous leads make an appearance. The characters often pop in and out of each other's books quite frequently.
Nicola and Luke N. have been told they will return as Penelope and Colin in Season 4. Nicola told The Wrap that it's "super-lovely," and they can't wait to "pop back and have some fun."
And now Jonathan Bailey is confirming his involvement in Season 4 as well. While making an appearance on Good Morning America to chat about his Emmy-nominated work in Fellow Travelers, Jonathan dished about the upcoming Bridgerton season.
"I look forward to reading the scripts and finding out myself," Jonathan said when asked if he knew what would happen with Anthony in Season 4.
He added, "I have a couple of weeks etched out in my schedule for returning, so I'm really excited."
And while Jonathan doesn't know too many specifics about what exactly will happen with Anthony, Kate, and the rest of the characters in Season 4, he's simply excited that the show can keep exploring all different types of love stories.
He explained to GMA, "The thing about Bridgerton, which is so brilliant, is there are so many different ways that you can fall in love as humans, and that's what this show will explore."
Jonathan added, "And, obviously, being the older brother, I'm going to be there to support the youngsters as we go."
In terms of supporting Luke T., Jonathan couldn't be more excited to see him take on the leading role in Season 4, saying, "Luke Thompson is just going to be stunning. And who knows who his love interest is going to be."
"Benedict's full of wonder and joy, and he's the beating heart of the family, so yeah, it should be brilliant. I can't wait," he added.
Production for Season 4 is reportedly scheduled to start in the fall, with showrunner Jess Brownell saying it could be a two-year wait until the new season hits Netflix.
