Jewellery trend loved by A-list celebs helps Aussie brand sell out 7 times: 'Special'
As 90s fashion trends continue to make a come back this latest one is sure to remind you of special times with your friends.
Broken heart friendship necklaces – I had one, you had one, pretty much every tween and teen girl of the 90s had one… or two, at one time or another. You know the pieces I’m talking about – the necklaces where you and your BFF each wear one side of a heart around your neck as a symbol of lifelong friendship.
While once all the rage, with many lasting far longer than the friendships themselves – it seems that after a brief hiatus, like many 90s trends, they too are back.
But before you hang your head in despondence – unlike slip dresses, chokers, bucket hats and cargo pants – friendship jewellery has thankfully received a glow-up and I approve.

Need more convincing? Some pretty A-list celebs approve too.
Take Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Cara Delevingne, who have expressed their friendship with one another by wearing matching necklaces featuring their names or cute amalgamations of their two names.
Steph Johnston, Managing Director of Australian jewellery brand Lion Wild believes the reasons behind the resurgence of friendship necklaces and friendship jewellery more broadly, have changed over the past few years.
“If you asked me a few years ago, I would have told you it was due to the Covid lockdowns when we couldn't see the people we loved, our pieces became an amazing way to feel connected,” she told Yahoo Lifestyle.
“The demand for these pieces really hasn't slowed down since. I think people are looking for more than just beautiful jewellery these days, they want a piece that resonates with them and truly carries a special meaning.”
Sunflower Necklace modernises broken heart concept
Like this Sunflower Necklace by Lion Wild, which has recreated the broken heart concept in a design that you’d actually (proudly) wear, today.
The necklaces are two semi-circle pendant necklaces that join together to make a circle that features a hand-drawn sunflower design and are so popular that they have sold out seven times this year.
They are also currently on sale, as a part of Black Friday, with the gold plated, silver or mixed metal options all 20 per cent off, along with a range of other meaningful and stunning jewellery items.
“We always get incredible reviews for these pieces but the ones that stand out the most is that they are beautiful pieces on their own,” Johnston said.
“Unlike the old 'broken heart' best friend necklaces, these ones are modern and beautiful on their own and our customers get compliments before realising what they symbolise.”
Aussie celebs like Carrie Bickmore love Lion Wild
As mentioned, Lion Wild is popular – I mean Carrie Bickmore follows the brand on Instagram and a range of items have been worn by reality television personalities too.
“The beautiful ladies on The Bachelor and MAFs and many of the reality TV shows have chosen to wear Lion Wild pieces on the show which is so fun to see,” Johnston said.
“Not only have they chosen to purchase the pieces themselves but it's super sweet to see them wanting to feel connected to their mum/sister/best friend while they are on the show.”
