Jessica Alba got candid about the realities of marriage just months before it was reported that she and Cash Warren were getting a divorce. In a newly-resurfaced interview from April 2024, the actress didn't hold back while speaking about her and Warren's relationship with Katherine Schwarzenegger on her BDA Baby podcast.

“I would say it’s all rosy for two-and-a-half years. But then after that you become roommates," Alba said. "You're just going through the motions, the responsibilities. It's a lot of like checking the boxes.”

When asked about how being a mom to the couple's three kids—daughters Honor, 16, and Haven, 13, and son Hayes, 7—while balancing her career affects her and Warren's marriage, Alba gave a refreshingly honest answer. “I think that he probably gets the short end of the stick,” she said, before clarifying: “I would say we‚ it's not even him, I would say it's us, right? Because when I'm seeing him and spending time with him, and we're like really like enjoying each other, it's an us thing. And it feeds me as well.”

She added, “We used to do every Wednesday we're going to do date night, or every week we're gonna set aside a time—we're gonna at least do date night, right? We won't have our phones and we'll just like talk. But then that stopped because whatever, and so we're just not consistent.”

Like every couple, Alba revealed that their relationship had room for improvement. “We have, obviously, the friendship, the comfort of like, ‘You're not going anywhere,'" she explained. “And so sometimes you don't treat those people the best. You don't consider their feelings in the way that that you would consider other people's feelings. So that is something that I think is a constant one to work on.”

Warren also previously confessed that his marriage to Alba is "hard work." During an interview with Us Weekly, he told the outlet, "It’s hard work, but we roll up our sleeves and we do it. It’s wild. It’s the longest relationship I could have ever imagined.”

Last week, it was reported that Alba and Warren recently split after 16 years of marriage. The couple met in 2004 on the set of Fantastic Four, before eloping at the Beverly Hills Courthouse in May 2008 when Alba was nine months pregnant.

While the breakup blindsided Alba and Warren's fans, the silver lining is that their divorce is anticipated to be an amicable one. "No matter what's going on right now, it seems they will remain close," a source told People. "If they're filing for divorce, it's not because of some hateful drama. They still look happy together."
