Jelly Roll Just Shared Major Update with Fans After Missing Grammys
Jelly Roll was noticeably absent from the 2025 Grammy Awards, in spite of being nominated in two categories. He hasn't given a reason for not attending, but he certainly has a busy schedule. Between touring the country, performing at FireAid, hosting a concert for first responders, and making his acting debut on Fire Country, we now know that the "I'm Not Okay" singer is taking on an all-new challenge.
Jelly Roll is joining the season 23 of American Idol in a first-of-its-kind role. He has appeared on the singing competition series as a mentor and performer, but this year he'll be serving as Artist in Residence for the aspiring singers.
Jelly Roll shared the news on social media along with a video of him celebrating with Idol host Ryan Seacrest. He picks up Ryan and spins him around, then says, "I feel like I'm giving them them energy they need. I'm uplifting and trying to get them going."
Jelly Roll captioned his post, "Had to lift up @ryanseacrest just like I’m gonna lift up the @americanidol hopefuls! 🙌 Honored to be Idol’s first-ever ARTIST IN RESIDENCE—mentoring with heart, soul, and real experience! 🎤💥 " Fans replied with messages like, "This is fantastic! You were incredible last season. This is the news I needed today" and "Awesome! My reason to watch American Idol again! ❤️"
Jelly Roll's music spans genres from hip-hop to rock to country. But, with Luke Bryan and Carrie Underwood at the judge's table, it's safe to assume the show will have a major country influence. The new season of American Idol starts on March 9 on ABC. Jelly Roll will join the show during Hollywood Week.
