Kacey Musgraves Issues Blunt Response After Her Reaction to Beyoncé’s Grammys Win Goes Viral
Kacey Musgraves is shutting down any rumors that she was upset that Beyoncé won Best Country Album for Cowboy Carter at the 2025 Grammy Awards.
The "Slow Burn" singer cleared up the confusion after her facial expression went viral on Sunday, Feb. 2.
Musgraves' rep spoke to E! News about the situation, saying, "It’s a sensationalistic false narrative meant to pit two talented female artists against each other. There was simply no scowl or expression made."
At the 2025 awards show, Taylor Swift presented the award for Best Country Album to Beyoncé, who appeared shocked when her name was called. The video then showed fellow nominees Musgraves and Lainey Wilson, before returning to Beyoncé as she walked up the stage to give her speech.
After the moment, fans quickly started debating whether or not Musgraves appeared upset as Beyoncé accepted the award, with one writing on X, "Kacey Musgraves is pissed that Beyonce beat her for best country album, look at her face expression #GRAMMYs."
But others disagreed, with replies like, "????? it’s literally a neutral expression, it’s barely showing any emotion 😭," and "Yeah that’s a stretch."
Another noted that Musgraves could've just been upset about losing in general, echoing Musgraves' own comment when they said, "She’s not 'pissed' she’s just dissapointed like anyone would be, doesn’t mean she isn’t also happy for Beyoncé too like stop trying to pit two women against each other it’s crazy."
Beyoncé addressed the country genre in her acceptance speech, saying, "I think sometimes genre is a cold word to keep us in our place as artists, and I just want to encourage people to do what they’re passionate about and to stay persistent.”
Along with Best Country Album, Beyoncé also took home the award for Album of the Year and Best Country Duo/Group Performance for her song "Il Most Wanted" with Miley Cyrus. Musgraves won as well, winning the award for Best Country Song for "The Architect."
