Jeff Goldblum in 'Jurassic World Dominion'Life finds a way, but Jeff Goldblum’s life may take him away from Jurassic Park.
"I think Ian Malcolm may have ridden off into the sunset,” said the actor, 71, in an interview with Total Film magazine published Oct. 8.
Despite his mathematician character, who debuted in the 1993 Steven Spielberg original and appeared in six total films including 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion, it’s uncertain whether he’ll return for future dinosaur-filled installments. “Maybe,” added Goldblum.

Jurassic World Rebirth, in theaters July 2, 2025, will continue the franchise that began with Michael Crichton's 1990 novel Jurassic Park and its 1993 screen adaptation. For Goldblum, it seems, retiring Ian Malcolm isn’t such a loss considering the dinosaur movies’ next generation.
"This next one,” he told the publication of Rebirth, “my friend Scarlett Johansson and my new friend Jonathan Bailey from Wicked, I think, are taking up the reins. And I can’t wait to see what they do. I think that’s a good idea."

Dominion, which united franchise stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard with original cast members Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill, dominated at the box office much like its predecessors, 2015’s Jurassic World and 2018’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
Goldblum addressed its less-than-glowing critical reception in his Total Film interview, saying, “Everybody’s got an opinion about it. It’s tough to make a good movie."
He added that he “had such a good time” filming Dominion, especially in "getting together again with Laura Dern and Sam Neill." "I was concentrating on trying to make our responsibility there a success and fulfill our part of the bargain.”

Rebirth, from director Gareth Edwards and writer David Koepp, will also star Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, Philippine Velge, Bechir Sylvain, Ed Skrein, Manuel Garcia-Rulf, Luna Blaise, David Iacono and Audrina Miranda in addition to Johansson and Bailey.
Koepp wrote the screenplays for the original Jurassic Park and its 1997 sequel The Lost World. According to the official movie description, Rebirth will take place five years after the events of Dominion.
Goldblum will next play the Wizard of Oz in Wicked: Part One, in theaters Nov. 22. He recently starred as Zeus in mythological Netflix comedy Kaos.
