PSA Jared Padalecki fans: your favorite actor may be coming back to TV sooner than you may think.
Just a few weeks ago, folks were tuning in to see the Supernatural alum guest star in a three-episode arc on Fire Country season 3 as Camden Casey. The recurring role had folks wondering if Jared would be making his mark on the CBS franchise, with rumors of him potentially starring in a spinoff that was separate from the upcoming Sheriff Country spinoff series airing during the 2025-2026 TV season.
Well, it looks like we may have some new insight into Jared's epic small screen return — and it has him returning to his hometown roots.
In a report from Deadline on January 14, it was revealed the Gilmore Girls star is teaming up with his former Walker executive producer/showrunner Anna Fricke to create a new TV show for CBS. Currently in development at the network, the project will also see him perform double duty as both a producer and star.
As for what the as-yet-untitled TV show is about, the outlet says it will be a medical drama taking place in rural Texas. Jared will portray a country doctor who has a unique style of practicing medicine while operating a mobile clinic for an underserved Texan community. What's more, his character will have a female mentee of sorts — another doctor who is running from her past.
When news of Jared's latest gig started circulating online, his fans couldn't contain their excitement.
"This is the greatest news I've heard in a while. I'm so, so excited! And so proud of our boy ❤️," one person wrote on Instagram. "Omg we get Jared as a doctor??!!! 🥹♥️ I’m so proud! Congrats @jaredpadalecki ♥️," another exclaimed. "I could have never imagined Jared as a doctor, anyways sooo excited 😭," a different follower added.
It's also important to note that Jared's new show shouldn't affect his potential future on Fire Country. TVLine writes his character may pop up in more episodes, and his spinoff won't be affected should this series get picked up.
No matter the case, we can't wait to get more screen time from Jared!
