Issa Rae Was 'Hyped' to Cross Off Bucket List Goal with 'Relatable' TurboTax Super Bowl Ad: See the Teaser! (Exclusive)
The 'Insecure' alum tells PEOPLE exclusively about starring in her very first Super Bowl ad
It's still only January, but Issa Rae can officially cross a lifelong goal off her bucket list!
On Thursday, Jan. 30, TurboTax unveiled a first look at its upcoming Super Bowl LIX advertisement. They managed to recruit the Insecure alum, 40, to star in the commercial, and she tells PEOPLE the opportunity was a dream come true.
"Oh, without a doubt. Absolutely," says Rae when asked if the gig was a bucket list item for her. "I was hyped to get this opportunity and really actually intrigued by the creative [aspect of it] because it was very relatable to me just knowing how daunting taxes can be."
"I was just like any opportunity to help the 20-year-old version of me that was constantly confused by [the task] and wanted people to do her taxes for her. I was like, 'This is easy. This is right up my alley,'" she continues.

The ad spotlights TurboTax’s "done-for-you" tax prep solutions and how it can make filing taxes easier and more stress-free than ever before. Whether you opt to file on your own or use a TurboTax expert's assistance to get the job done, the best tax outcome is guaranteed.
"There's an opportunity now via this app, these done-for-you tax practices that allow you to file your taxes in an easier and less stressful way. And you'll have a TurboTax expert who literally does everything for you, and you can be anywhere while doing your taxes," Rae explains. "Literally, if you're lounging by the pool or you're on a road trip, whatever it is, the whole concept is just to make your life easier by having an expert to do these taxes for you in a faster time."
For Rae, she feels that this Super Bowl commercial is the perfect way to highlight TurboTax and its services because she's "someone who procrastinates and always makes things harder on myself," so she knows the tax filing struggle all too well.

Issa Rae in her Turbo Tax commercial"This is really just showing you the ways in which we as people, can do that, and how we don't have to," she shares. "One of the things that I really loved about shooting this was just specifically identifying myself in these commercials. I don't have to overthink things, I don't have to push things off. I can ask for help and I'll receive it and then get it over with. And then move on with my life to the fun parts."
Getting to see her TurboTax ad on the small screen is just one of the things Rae has to look forward to when Super Bowl LIX kicks off on Sunday, Feb. 9.
"I got to go to the Super Bowl last year in Vegas, and that was so much fun, and Usher performed. This year, I'm going to find somebody's couch," she says, adding, "I just want to watch a good game!"
