“Inside Out 2” Gets Digital Release Date: Here's When the Emotions Are Coming Home (Exclusive)

'Inside Out 2' is on digital Aug. 20, and on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray and DVD Sept. 10

Joy, Sadness, Anxiety and the rest of the gang are making their way to audiences' living rooms.

PEOPLE can exclusively reveal that Disney-Pixar's record-breaking hit Inside Out 2 will become available on digital Aug. 20, then on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray and DVD Sept. 10.

Bonus features contained in the at-home releases include a documentary feature that covers how Pixar's team created the new emotions audiences meet in the film, including Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri) Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos) and Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser).

The new release also includes a feature on how the movie's pivotal scene in The Vault came together, as well as a 13-minute alternate opening to the film and four deleted scenes, according to a press release.

Kelsey Mann directed Inside Out 2 in his feature film debut as a director; the movie also saw cast members Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith and Lewis Black return as the emotions Joy, Sadness and Anger, respectively. Tony Hale voices Fear for the sequel, while Liza Lapira is Disgust.

Inside Out 2 made a major splash at the box office when it premiered in theaters in June. The movie crossed the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office fewer than three weeks after it opened and is the fastest animated film to ever reach $1 billion, according to The Walt Disney Company.

As of Aug. 7, the movie has made over $1.5 billion worldwide and is the highest-grossing movie of 2024 so far.

When PEOPLE spoke with Poehler, 52, in June, the star said she had asked Pixar studio executive Pete Docter, who directed 2015's Inside Out, to make a follow-up film for a long time.

“When they told me their idea of how to approach the second one, I thought it was just genius," Poehler said of the new movie's storyline, which follows tween Riley (Kensington Tallman) as she starts to face changes associate with going to high school.
