IKEA and Marimekko join forces to inspire a Nordic sauna moment. Here's your first look.
IKEA has today launched its limited edition BASTUA collection, designed exclusively in collaboration with Finnish design house Marimekko.

The brands have since embarked on a deep dive into the self-care rituals of sauna, creating a unique collection based on its essential elements.
The BASTUA range marks the first time Marimekko has designed a set of its iconic prints exclusively for a collection with a partnering brand, and will be available worldwide from March this year.

Inspired by nature and the self-care rituals of the Nordic sauna, the collection consists of 26 products ranging from furniture, glassware and textiles, and has been designed in vibrant prints, and colours to reflect the aesthetic beauty of Nordic nature.

Collection inspired by Nordic furniture design
The BASTUA collection also comprises of items inspired by the practicality and simplicity of Nordic furniture design. The classic side table complemented with the versatile and coordinated trays and glassware in the collection will add a spark of Nordic joy to your every day.
“Nordic furniture design has always been characterised by clean lines and simple constructions that focus on function” says Mikael Axelsson, Designer at IKEA. “The BASTUA side table is my take on this heritage as it is made of birch veneer and with a high edge that keeps things in place.” The furniture in the collection is a nod to this heritage with its solid material and simple, yet functional design.
Expect also to see exquisite glasses, bowls and jugs inspired by carved logs and sun-dappled water ripples, as well as colourful textiles in dreamy designs.
IKEA and Marimekko collaboration a natural choice
Henrik Most, Creative Leader at IKEA says collaborating with Marimekko was a natural choice for IKEA.
“We are both committed to enabling a better life at home, and with the BASTUA collection, it begins with focusing on wellness first,” he said. “The collaboration encapsulates the sensations of endless summers and the simple and aesthetic beauty of Nordic nature in furniture and accessories for the home.”
Bringing sauna culture to everyday homewares
Creative Director at Marimekko, Rebekka Bay says capturing the essence of Marimekko's Finnish roots and its connection to the historic origins of sauna culture was a fundamental part of the design journey and the creation of the BASTUA prints.
"Marimekko is committed to bringing joy to the everyday lives of people with its bold prints and designs, and we are excited to see this to come true in collaboration with IKEA,” she said.
The BASTUA collection will be launched in all IKEA markets, including Australia, this March 2023 and available while stocks last.
