Hunted contestants spill on what it's really like filming with a camera crew

EXCLUSIVE: Megan and Gracie open up about their experience on the show.

Hunted Australia contestants Megan and Gracie have revealed what it was really like trying to go undetected on the reality show while having a camera crew following their every move.

The niece and aunty duo had quite an adventurous experience on this year’s season, becoming the first team of Fugitives to use a charter plane to evade the Hunters, but were eventually captured while hiding at a campsite in regional Victoria.

Speaking with Yahoo Lifestyle following their elimination, the pair explain that the camera person tasked with filming their journey acted as an additional member of their team.

“They wanted us to win as much as we did, and they were just truly amazing,” Gracie shares. “There was no hiding spot that was too little for them, they would squeeze in.”

“Most of the time they're either ahead of you or really behind you and hidden,” Megan adds. “So it's not like they’re right beside you with a camera in your face, which I think people think is the case.

“They're very covert, and of course we're wearing our GoPros and there's cameras on all different angles as well. So it is pretty hidden. I know people think that they’re the ones that are going to get us caught, but it's not like that.”

The duo went on to explain that they coincidentally had two cameramen on the day they were captured so someone was able to go with each person when they had to run away from the Hunters.

“We had Tommy, he was with us all the time,” Gracie details. “And then we had Locky that came in and in the morning time would help mike us up and he got the surveillance footage and the surrounding shots you see on the show.”

“When we sleep they sleep, when we eat they eat,” Megan remarks. “They’re literally extra members of your team for the whole 24 hours.”

'Hard watching'

While the pair found it “exciting” to relive their experience on TV, they admit it was “frustrating” seeing how much had been edited out.

“There was a lot more that we experienced that obviously, the whole of Australia doesn't get to experience with us,” Gracie says. “There was about six days worth [of content] and it was all kind of crammed into the one day and made it look like we just caught a plane for fun and then had to go back to where we came from.”

“We had quite a few nights in Geelong as well which was cut out,” Megan says. “At the end of the day, it made a really good episode and great TV, but it was hard watching because we knew so much more.”

They add that despite the fact that they were the second team eliminated this season, they “honestly would not change a thing” from their experience.

“I think purely we were very unlucky with how it played out,” Gracie says. ‘But every decision we made we made as a team and every single thing was thought through. I’m very proud of us and happy with how we did and I honestly would not change much.”
