Hunted contestants reveal surprising rule cast must follow while filming

EXCLUSIVE: Here's why you won't see any Fugitives being captured at night.

Hunted Australia contestants Cath and Kel have shared a surprising insight into what it’s like being a fugitive on Channel 10’s thrilling reality show.

The close friends, who became the first team to be captured by the Hunters during Monday night’s premiere episode, tell Yahoo Lifestyle there are strict rules in place that the cast must follow while filming.

They explain that the ‘game’ stops at 6:30pm every night and resumes at 7am the following day, so neither the Fugitives nor the Hunters can make any moves overnight.

Cath says she and Kel were hoping this rule could help them when they were hiding in their friend Georgina’s house and had Hunters surrounding the property ready to capture them.

“We were getting close to 6:30pm, and at 6:30 game’s over and it starts again at 7 o’clock the next morning,” she details. “So basically we were saying, we’ll just make them wait until 6:30 and then they’ll go away and then overnight we'll come up with something. We can tunnel our way out!

“I don’t know what we thought we’d do, but we’d be ready to go as soon as the starting gun went off the next day. But they would be too, so they were going to be back there and it would have been silly of us to do that.

“They told us, ‘Come on guys, you're going to be caught tomorrow morning so come on, give yourselves up’. So that's why we went, ‘Alright, we tried’.”

'Pretty proud of ourselves'

While the pair say they had a terrific experience on the reality show - especially when using their creativity to write Hunted: The Musical in a hilarious unseen moment - they believe their downfall was when they began taunting the Hunters by posting Where’s Wally-style photos on social media.

“I don’t think we would’ve done the taunt quite so early, we went a bit crazy there,” Cath says when asked what they would’ve done differently.

“And I think when you're not savvy with tech, maybe leave it alone. So I think it was our tech that was our undoing, we should’ve just left that and kept playing our own way. But anyway, it was all a bit of fun. We went on to have fun together and we did that, so we're pretty happy.

“We heard there were 10,000 applicants from Victoria and they picked us, and a few other fabulous people, so that made us feel pretty proud of ourselves.”

Hunted continues Tuesday 18 July at 7:30pm on 10 and 10 Play
