Home and Away’s Ada Nicodemou has opened up about her ‘secret health battle’ which caused her to completely lose feeling in her left foot. The 47-year-old actress, who has starred on the popular soap opera since 2000, revealed in her recent column for Stellar Magazine that she suffered a herniated disc in her spine a year and a half ago.

Ada explained that the incident happened when she was preparing to exercise early in the morning and sneezed while getting dressed. She had to undergo an operation and endure a lengthy recovery process, which she said “forced [her] to slow down” in life.

“I had to come to terms with the fact I couldn’t push my body the way I used to. It was a wake-up call, physically and emotionally,” she wrote. “I started to think about exercise differently, realising that health isn’t about extremes.”

The mother-of-two added that she did a photoshoot following her injury and felt “uncomfortable and unhappy” with how she looked. However, the experience helped her accept that “health is more than appearance”.

“Now, I focus on what makes me feel good: Pilates, walks, light weight training, and a more balanced approach,” she said. “Instead of chasing a perfect body, I’m being kind to myself and listening to what my body needs.”

Ada’s update comes shortly after her co-star Lynne McGranger revealed in August that she had undergone surgery to address a condition that was severely affecting her health and well-being.

The 71-year-old shocked fans when she posted a photo of herself in hospital, sharing that she had her “toxic overactive thyroid” removed.

“It was a long time coming. We were incompatible and quite frankly I was exhausted,” she wrote. “I want to thank all the amazing people at the Mater Hospital North Sydney for making this giant life step so much easier than it might have been.

“I'm healing well and so far I don't miss that dirty thyroid one bit! Stay tuned for scar spam.”

Lynne has portrayed Irene Roberts on Home and Away since 1993, making her the second-longest serving cast member on the soap after Ray Meagher - with Ada in third place.
