Home and Away’s Tammin Sursok reveals ‘unsettling’ family heartache

Just over a week after it was officially announced that she was joining the cast of Neighbours, Tammin Sursok has opened up about being apart from her children while she is filming in Melbourne.

The former Home and Away star, who recently relocated from Queensland for her cameo role in the long-running Channel Ten soap opera, took to Instagram over the weekend to detail her heartache.

“I haven’t been away from my children for more than three days in eight years,” she captioned a selfie with her two daughters Phoenix, 8, and Lennon, 2.

“I have always been able to make it work and have them with me. That is largely to do with my supportive husband who is able to conduct his business remotely. Until now.”

The actress went on to say that she knew it was inevitable that she would have to travel for work in the entertainment industry, which is a part of her job she finds “both unsettling and thrilling”.

“I’m so grateful to be able to work and be on set as much as I have been. It’s also important to do what’s right for my children as they grow up. And that means them going to their school in a different state,” she explained.

“So I will stay here and work for the next three weeks (I will see them on the weekends when I fly up). And I will count down every second until I see them again.

“My heart feels like it is outside of my body and I won’t be completely whole until we are together again. If you were the carer of a child I know you understand this feeling. All of this I’m doing for them and I will remember the days that I worked so hard for their future.”

Tammin’s heartfelt post was met with several supportive comments from her followers who empathised with her and sent their love.

“It's a terrible feeling and I know it well,” actress Christie Hayes replied, adding that the same thing happened to her when she was filming Neighbours in 2019 and her sons were in NSW.

“Anxiety and stress, sadness about being apart and even loneliness are all there but take this time to enjoy doing what you love and are so great at.”

“An agonising decision but you’ve made the best choice for them and your family,” fellow Home and Away star Sophie Bloom added. “I hope the transition goes smoothly for you all and you’re back together before you know it.”
