Home and Away spoilers: Lynne McGranger teases 'exciting' new character

Home and Away’s Lynne McGranger has just teased that an “exciting new character” will soon be arriving in Summer Bay. The star, who has played Irene Roberts since 1991, shared a sweet snap on Instagram with Nicholas Cartwright, who plays Cash Newman.

The pair were all smiles in the selfie, with the mysterious new actor covered by a kissing emoji. Cash is dressed in his police uniform, so it’s possible that the new character could be involved in a crime.

“Saturday vibes with Cash and an exciting new character. Coming soon,” Lynne captioned the snap.

Fans were quick to guess in the comments who the new character could be, with some pleading with producers not to split Cash up with his onscreen girlfriend Eden Fowler, played by Stephanie Panozzo.

“Can’t wait to see what the new character is,” one fan commented.

“Exciting new character I love the sound of that, hope it’s Flick & Cash’s foster dad Gary,” another mused.

“I’d love to see Fin and Damian make an appearance,” a third chimed in, referring to Damian Roberts and Finlay ‘Fin’ Roberts who were on the soap in the ‘90s.

Harper comes to Summer Bay

There’s a high chance that this mystery character could be Harper, played by Melbourne-based actress Jessica Redmayne. She’s no stranger to the screen, previously appearing in 800 Words, Neighbours and Five Bedrooms alongside former Home and Away star Stephen Peacocke.

In March, a call sheet and script pages were accidentally revealed by Ada Nicodemou (Leah Patterson) on social media. While it’s not clear if the new characters would be regulars or guest stars, the new information is still intriguing.

On Ada’s rehearsal call sheet, Jessica’s character Harper was in a scene with both Cash and Irene. The star was also spotted filming out at Palm Beach in March, looking cosy with Nicholas’ character Cash.

The show usually films about five months in advance, so we could be seeing Harper in August. While there’s no indication yet on whether she’s a new love interest for the police officer or just a friend, fans are worried about what Harper’s storyline will involve.

“Is she going to be a love interest for Cash, please tell me no!” one fan wrote on social media.

“Please don’t tell me [Cash] and Eden break up, I love them together,” another added.

“On spoiler pages they said she was possibly Lily Smith (Gypsy’s daughter). I don’t think she is linked to Irene though,” a third chimed in.
