Hollywood Music in Media Awards Noms Led by ‘Emilia Pérez’ and ‘Blitz,’ With Elton John, Hans Zimmer and Scores More Among the Nominees

More than a hundred songwriters, composers, perfomers and films are represented in the nominees’ list for the 2024 Hollywood Music in Media Awards — from pop luminaries like Elton John & Brandi Carlile, Miley Cyrus, Lainey Wilson and Pharrell Williams to celebrated scorers like Hans Zimmer, Harry Gregson-Williams, Kris Bowers and Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross.

The list of nominees was unveiled Wednesday, in advance of a ceremony due to take place Nov. 20 at the Avalon in Hollywood.

More from Variety

“Emilia Pérez” led all films with five HMMA nominations. “Blitz” and “A Complete Unknown” have three nominations apiece. Other films picking up multiple noms include “Wicked,” “The Wild Robot,” “Moana 2,” “The Idea of You,” “Challengers” and “Elton John: Never Too Late.” (Scroll down to see the full lineup of 2024 nominees.)

The HMMA lineup of categories is the most expansive of any awards program recognizing musical achievements in the movies, between breaking down different genre categories for feature films, giving awards for performers of the year’s film songs, recognizing music supervisors, and giving awards to music-themed feature films and documentaries in their entirety.

The list of nominees for best on-screen performance is composed of Zoe Saldana (for “El Mal” from “Emilia Perez”), Cynthia Erivo (for “Defying Gravity” from “Wicked”), Timothée Chalamet (for “Blowin’ in the Wind” from “A Complete Unknkown”), Nicholas Galitzine and Anne-Marie (for “The Idea of You” from the film of the same name) and Saoirse Ronan (for “Winter Coat” from “Blitz”).

Other actors and/or singers who are up for HMMA awards for performing nominated tunes include Selena Gomez, H.E.R., Dwayne Johnson and Riley Keough.

Songwriting nominees include such names as Diane Warren, Maren Morris, Robbie Williams, Brittany Howard, Abigail Barlow & Emily Bear, A.R. Rahman, Linda Perry, Shane McAnally, Taura Stinson, Kristen Wiig and Savan Kotecha. Filmmakers figure into the songwriting nominations mix this year, too, as Luca Guadagnino (“Challengers”) and Steve McQueen (“Blitz”) are among those who contributed to their movies’ theme songs on top of directing.

The list of scoring nominees includes Michael Giacchino, Daniel Pemberton, John Debney, Tom Holkenborg, Henry Jackman, Volker Bertelmann, Jon Batiste, Alexis Grapsas, Rob Simonsen, John Powell and many more.

The nominees for best music-themed film (biopic or musical) are “A Complete Unknown,” “Back to Black,” “Better Man,” “Bob Marley: One Love,” “Emilia Perez” and “Wicked.”

Up for music documentary/special program are “Elton John: Never Too Late,” “I Am: Celine Dion,” “Music by John Williams,” “One to One: John and Yoko,” “Piece by Piece” and “The Greatest Night in Pop.”

Bernie Taupin will get the Outstanding Career Achievement Award at the ceremony, on top of his nomination for co-writing the nominated song sung by Elton John and Brandi Carlile from “Elton John: Never Too Late.”

Tickets for the Nov. 20 awards program can be purchased here.
