HBO’s The Penguin Grows With Sunday Move, Inside Out 2 Opens Big for Disney+

HBO’s The Penguin made a bigger splash in its regular time slot.

The second episode of the series offshoot of Matt Reeves’ The Batman aired Sunday night at 9/8c, where it drew 1.6 million domestic cross platform viewers — outperforming Episode 1’s premiere night by 17%.

The DC series’ debut, which aired on a Thursday, went on to rack up 5.3 million cross-platform viewers in its first four days, besting the fourth and final season premiere of Succession (4.9 million viewers over a similar amount of time) and The White Lotus’ Season 2 average (4.1 million viewers over a similar amount of time), and nearly on par with January’s Season 4/”Night Country” premiere of True Detective (5.7 million viewers over a similar amount of time).

To date within its first 11 days of availability, HBO reports, that first episode has exceeded 10.4 million U.S. cross-platform viewers.

In other streaming viewership news, the blockbuster animated sequel Inside Out 2 — which hit Disney+ on Sept. 25 — drove 30.5 million views globally in its first five days, making it the No.1 film premiere on Disney+ in 2024, the streamer’s best theatrical film premiere since Encanto (December 2021), and the No. 1 film premiere of all time in EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) and LATAM (Latin America).

What’s more, since the first Inside Out 2 teaser trailer debuted, there have been more than 121 million views of the original Inside Out globally on Disney+.
