Halsey Battles Their Alter-Ego in Music Video for Gritty '90s Single 'Ego' — Watch!
The song is the latest offering from the pop star's forthcoming album 'The Great Impersonator,' due Oct. 25
Halsey faces off with themself in their latest visual.
On Friday, Sept. 6, the pop star, 29, shared the latest single from her forthcoming album The Great Impersonator, "Ego," alongside its accompanying music video.
In the visual, written and directed by Halsey, a femme version of the singer faces off with a masculine version of them as they eat dinner, chase one another around a house and try to kill one another. At the end of the video, the femme presenting version of Halsey hides in the back of their alter-ego's car and chokes them.

On the '90s alt-inspired track, the "Without Me" artist grapples with how she's been perceived by the public and her internal distress.
"I think that I should try to kill my ego / 'Cause if I don't, my ego might kill me / I'm all grown up but somehow lately /I'm acting like a f---ing baby / I'm really not as happy as I seem," they sing on the track.
Last month, Halsey announced their fifth studio LP The Great Impersonator was on its way.
They shared an eras-spanning trailer revealing the project would be a "confessional concept album."
In the teaser, Halsey confessed, "I really thought this album would be the last one I ever made."
The visual featured the "You Should Be Sad" artist in retro clothing and hairstyles, imagining who they might have been during previous time periods.
“What if I debuted in the early 2000s? The ’90s? The ’80s? The ’70s?” Halsey asked in a voiceover. “Am I still Halsey every time? In every timeline, do I still get sick? Do I become a mom?”
In the trailer, Halsey mirrors artists like Annie Lennox, David Bowie and Britney Spears — the latter of whom they interpolated in their recent single "Lucky."
The visual also featured snippets of unreleased songs from the three-time Grammy nominee capturing the aesthetic of different decades of music.
“If it all ended right now, is this a person you’d be proud to leave behind? Is it even you?” Halsey concluded.
