“Grey’s Anatomy”'s Camilla Luddington Reveals Why Jo and Link's Love Story Is 'Very Reminiscent of My Own' (Exclusive)
The 21st season of 'Grey's Anatomy' premieres Sept. 26 on ABC
Camilla Luddington is ready for a Jo-Link baby — just like fans of Grey’s Anatomy.
The actress, 40, tells PEOPLE that she was “so excited” when she found out her character was pregnant at the end of season 20, even though Jo kept it a secret from her boyfriend Atticus "Link" Lincoln (Chris Carmack).
“I'm fully team Jo-Link. I just love them as a couple,” she gushes. “I mean, I'm very biased about this situation because I met my husband [Matthew Alan] waiting tables. We were best friends and then we've ended up... Obviously, we're married now with kids. So that storyline of theirs being very reminiscent of my own, I'm like so team them.”
“And the idea of a Jo-Link baby, I'm game,” she adds but admits that Link’s previous reservations about expanding their family gave her “pause.”
As fans may recall, the couple experienced a pregnancy scare earlier in season 20, which resulted in Jo realizing that she wanted to have a baby with him to add to their brood of her daughter Luna and his and Amelia Shepherd’s (Caterina Scorsone) son, Scout. However, he told her, “I can get there. It’s just gonna take me some time.”
Luddington — who hosts the advice podcast Call It What It Is with her former costar Jessica Capshaw — says it’s that conversation that made Jo feel like she needed to sit with the pregnancy news to herself “for a moment” but promises “a conversation” between the pair will happen in the season 21 premiere, which debuts Sept. 26 on ABC.
“You're going to see her in the premiere really nervous and she's trying to find the moment to tell him,” she teases. “I don't know whether it's a combination of cold feet…I think it's a mix of a lot of things. I think it's cold feet. I think it's really not knowing how he's going to react and how she's going to feel about it. And I think it just feels chaotic to her.”

Luddington adds Meredith Grey’s (Ellen Pompeo) resignation and the firing of Teddy Altman (Kim Raver), Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) and Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) after the secret Alzheimer's research was discovered will add to the “chaos” in the upcoming season.
"The hospital itself is so chaotic and there's so many things happening. And by the way, Link's ex [Amelia] who is the mother of his child right now has no job,” she explains. “So there's a lot in the family dynamic that's happening. And I think that she’s cognizant of that.”
