He took home the Gold Logie at last year’s show and now Grant Denyer has positioned himself as the awards’ most defiant defender.

The fan favourite made his opinion known on Thursday morning radio, when he scolded nominee Tom Gleeson for speaking ill of Australian TV’s night of nights.

Ex-Family Feud star’s comments come after Tom Gleeson released a series of attack ads targeting the Gold Logies’ other nominees.

Among the stand-up comedian’s sharpest quips was when he slammed the coveted award all together — despite it being among the TV industry’s top honours.

“The idea of winning the Gold Logie is so preposterous that I have to have it. It is so stupid, and it makes me laugh so much, that it makes me want it,” Tom told Stellar.

This defensive stance did not sit well with Grant, who said the nominee was ‘machine-gunning the institution of the Logies’.

"He's slagging everyone off,” he told 2DayFM’s audience. “Tom Gleeson is just taking all the headlines. He's being real angry about it.”

"It's become a joke this year," Grant continued, adding “two of the loudest Gold nominees are just effectively taking the piss" in reference to Tom and Sunrise star Sam Mac.

But Grant wasn’t alone in his criticism, with Amanda Keller also taking aim at the comedian’s apparently humorous tactics to drum up support.

The Living Room host, who is also up for the top gong this year, claimed her competition was running a ‘smear campaign’ against his rivals: Sam Mac, Eve Morey, Amanda Keller, Rodger Corser and Costa Georgiadis.

“It’s hard because Tom is playing a different game, and that’s what I’m finding I’m struggling with to the honest,” she told news.com.au of his pre-show agenda.

“It’s always been that the nominees are a happy soup, and I still want us to be a happy soup, there’s no need to make it personal and pick us all off.

“I know Tom’s playing a comedic game, but really, I’m just happy to be in the soup.”
