Goo Goo Dolls postpone shows as frontman John Rzeznik hospitalized with pneumonia
"Thank you for your understanding — we’ll make it worth the wait when we return in March 2025!" the band wrote on Instagram.
Goo Goo Dolls have postponed several tour dates after frontman John Rzeznik was hospitalized with pneumonia.
The rock band shared a video on its Instagram Monday announcing that their South Africa tour dates are being rescheduled for March 2025 because Rzeznik fell ill.
"We’re heartbroken to postpone our South Africa shows. This country means so much to us, and we were so excited to create more memories with you," the band captioned the video, which featured Rzeznik, 58, in a hospital bed wearing a black hat.
"Sadly, my doctor has advised rest and recovery," the caption continued. "Thank you for your understanding — we’ll make it worth the wait when we return in March 2025!"
The new dates include March 25 in Cape Town, March 27 in Durban, and March 29 in Pretoria. Per the band, all tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled dates, and ticket holders will receive instructions on how to confirm their attendance or request a refund, whichever they prefer.

In the Instagram video, Rzeznik apologized to fans, telling them he is "truly sorry" for the rescheduling. The "Iris" singer explained that he initially went to the doctor, who diagnosed him with pneumonia and told him to check into the hospital, and he will be "stuck here for a day or two" while he recovers.

"We're working on getting back down there as fast as we can," he continued. "I will keep you informed about that, and I'm just really sorry that we couldn't do this. I apologize that this happened, and we'll come down there and make it up to you guys. Thanks for being patient.”
The Goo Goo Dolls were initially slated to perform in South Africa from Dec. 4-7. Next up, the band is scheduled for a gig at Live Fest 2024 in Naples, Fla., on Dec. 14.
