Here’s What Kacey Musgraves Had To Say After Being Called Out For Seemingly Scowling During Beyoncé’s Historic Country Grammys Win
Kacey Musgraves is addressing all the talk around her viral reaction to losing the Best Country Album award to Beyoncé at the 2025 Grammys.
If you missed it, Kacey’s sixth studio album, Deeper Well, landed her a nomination in the Best Country Album category. She was also nominated for Best Country Solo Performance, Best Americana Performance, and Best Country Song — the latter of which she won.
Also nominated in the Best Country Album category were Post Malone’s F-1 Trillion, Chris Stapleton’s Higher, Lainey Wilson’s Whirlwind, and Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter.
As we know now, Cowboy Carter was ultimately awarded the Best Country Album Grammy, making Beyoncé the first Black artist to win in this category.
After appearing incredibly shocked when her name was called out, Beyoncé took to the stage and delivered a powerful acceptance speech.
“I think sometimes 'genre' is a code word to keep us in our place as artists,” she said. “I just want to encourage people to do what they're passionate about.”
Well, while several Grammy attendees cheered Beyoncé on, viewers at home noticed that Kacey didn’t seem too thrilled.

“Kacey Musgraves is pissed that Beyonce beat her for best country album, look at her face expression,” one post on X read. “Is Kacey Musgraves mad that Beyoncé won? She sure looks it,” said another.

But now, Kacey has addressed all the buzz through her representative, clarifying that she did not “scowl” or make any kind of pointed facial expression.
“It’s a sensationalistic, false narrative meant to pit two talented female artists against each other,” Kacey’s rep told E! News.
“There was simply no scowl or expression made,” they added.
