Beyoncé’s 2025 Grammys Win Divides Fans as Some Suggest She ‘Did Not Deserve’ Trophy

Beyoncé admitted that she was “in shock” in the wake of her major win at the 2025 Grammy Awards on Sunday, Feb. 2.

The “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” singer, who was nominated for 11 trophies at this year’s awards show, was surprised when it was revealed that her 2024 album COWBOY CARTER, her first country album, won in the Best Country Album category. She was nominated alongside Post Malone (F-1 Trillion), Kacey Musgraves (Deeper Well), Chris Stapleton (Higher) and Lainey Wilson (Whirlwind).

“Wow, I really was not expecting this. Wow,” she said. “I want to thank God—oh my god—that I’m able to still do what I love after so many years.”

After thanking “all of the incredible country artists that accepted this album,” she directly addressed her shift into the country music space on COWBOY CARTER, a move that not all country fans have championed.

“I think sometimes genre is a code word to keep us in our place as artists,” she said. “And I just want to encourage people to do what they’re passionate about, and to stay persistent.”
