If you love a roast chook from Coles or Woolworths, you need this $5 Kmart gadget
If you love a good rotisserie chicken, but hate having to manually shred them, this is the item for you.
Grabbing a roast chicken in your Woolies or Coles shop is an Aussie right of passage. The $12 birds make for quick and delicious meals when you're time-poor, heading to a picnic or just cannot be bothered putting too much thought into dinner.
If you love a good "bachelor's handbag" but find the task of shredding the chicken for salads or pasta really tedious, Kmart has entered the chat with a nifty new gadget that will do the job for you. Even better, it will only set you back $5.
The budget retailer's chicken shredder was recently the star of a conversation on Facebook where shoppers praised the item, which has only just landed in stores.
"Has anyone got any reviews for this $5 chicken shredder," one customer asked. "I buy a roast chook weekly to shred for salads and I HATE shredding it, it takes me so long. Saw this at Kmart the other day and want to know if anyone has used it and how good it works."
Kmart shoppers recommend $5 shredder
One shopper was so impressed with the kitchen gadget that they uploaded a video of themselves using it, showing how simple it is to use - and how effectively it shreds cooked chicken.

"I bought this the other day and I actually think it's the best $5 I've ever spent," someone else said, later adding, "I used it the other night with charcoal chicken and worked honestly so well."
Several other people added that they had either already purchased the chicken shredder and were excited to give it a whirl, while others said they planned to buy one as soon as possible.
The Kmart shredder appears to be a similar item to one that has gone viral on social media in recent years as people have raved about it being a "game-changer", "must-have" and "life-changing."
Others were not so sure about the contraption, with several shoppers expressing their scepticism in the comments and suggesting alternative methods of shredding meat.
"If you have a hand mixer you can use that in a bowl to shred chicken," one wrote.
"Use your hand or stand mixer instead," another said.
"Electric beater is quick and easy," yet another added.
How to safely store your Woolies roast chicken
So, once you've shredded that tasty rotisserie bird, what do you do if you don't want to toss it through a salad or into a roll?
Lydia Buchtmann, CEO of the Food Safety Information Council, previously told Yahoo Lifestyle, “If you’re not going to use it within a couple of days, divide it into small bits, take the chicken off of it [and] put it in the freezer." The frozen chicken should then last for approximately three months before it loses quality.

Lydia also recommends popping your chicken into snaplock bags and removing the air before you freeze it – with one other handy tip: “Get a texta and write [the date] on the outside, so you know how long it’s been in there. Use the [oldest] chicken first.”
