Gogglebox viewers 'in tears' after emotional TV tribute to Di Kershaw

Gogglebox Australia viewers were emotional on Thursday night after the reality show paid tribute to fan favourite cast member Di Kershaw.

Di, who had appeared on the popular series alongside her husband Mick since the first episode in 2015, passed away in July after a short battle with throat cancer at the age of 76.

The premiere episode of the show’s 16th season was dedicated to Di and featured a moving three minute tribute showcasing some of her most memorable TV moments.

“Tonight, we pay tribute to our beloved Di,” the voice over announced at the end of the episode.

“From our very first episode, Di always knew how to make her mark.”

The montage featured a number of hilarious clips of Di on the couch with her husband, including their argument about changing nappies, her confession about hitting a cyclist with her car, and her shocked reaction to watching Love Island for the first time.

“With husband of 50 years, Mick, they loved nothing better than watching some quality TV,” the voice continued.

“Appearing in every season, we got to know Mick and Di very well… From eloquent critiques to thought-provoking conversation, Di was never afraid to speak her mind.

“Thank you, Mick and Di, for saving a spot for us on your couch every week… From all of us here at Gogglebox, and from your extended family of viewers across Australia, you will be deeply missed.”

‘So emotional’

Viewers quickly took to social media to praise Di and remember her sense of humour, sass and honesty.

“What a beautiful, honest tribute to Di. Deepest condolences to Mick. We will all miss her,” one person wrote.

“That tribute to Di was so emotional. We will miss you. May she rest in peace,” another added, followed by a third who said, “What a beautiful tribute. I was in tears”.

“Vale Di. Thinking of Mick. Thank you both for all the laughs over the years,” someone else shared, while a different user said, “#GoggleboxAU will never be the same without Di”.

“This is how we should all live life… with a laugh, with a glass and no bullshit. RIP DI,” another fan tweeted.

“It's no secret how brilliant the editors are on #GoggleboxAU but they did their very best work on the tribute to Di,” one viewer remarked.
