"If I look a little groggy it's thanks to this guy who just gave me a new pair of boots," she joked in the caption of her Dec. 11 upload to the picture-sharing platform, which kicked off with a selfie of her with her doctor. "Wish they were cowboy boots but that will come in about 6 weeks hopefully," she added.
In the second slide, Spencer included a picture of what post-surgery life looks like now, showing off the mid-calf gray boot on her left foot and the black ankle boot on her right. Both legs were wrapped in gauze and ace bandages.
"My right foot was easy," she said, explaining she "just had [a] plate removed from surgery last year."
However, her left foot underwent a "bigger deal" procedure to correct "a very old college diving injury."
"I was doing a reverse one and a half and hit the board, shattering toes and joints," she recalled. "Back then they said there was nothing you could do except tape it, let it heal, and live with the pain. Today there are much better options, thanks to surgeons like Dr Marty O'Malley at HSS."
Spencer concluded with a nod to a hit Nancy Sinatra track, joking, "These boots were made for walking."
Her fans and Instagram followers quickly filled the comments with well-wishes and bits of humor, presumably to help cheer her up as she heals.
"Sweetie!!" exclaimed co-star Rebecca Jarvis. "Feel better soon❤️🩹."
"Amazing the advances they have made," a second applauded. "Heal quickly."
"Omg!!! Love the new open toed shoes," joked U.S. champion figure skater Adam Rippon.
"Jesus!!! Who does both feet at the same time???? My girl, that’s who! So tough!" declared Dr Jen Ashton. "Sending u speedy love to fast recovery! We’ve got dancin to do!❤️❤️."
"Dr O’Malley is the best! No doubt you’ll be back in your feet again soon! 😊," one more reassured her.
