‘Gladiator II’ Sets Paramount+ Premiere Date

Gladiator II, Ridley Scott’s critically acclaimed follow-up to his Best Picture Oscar-winning Gladiator, is bound for streaming, set to premiere on Paramount+ in the U.S. and Canada on January 21.

The historical epic hits the service following a global theatrical run via Paramount Pictures that’s seen it gross over $455 million, garnering nominations for two Golden Globes, four Critics’ Choice Awards, three BAFTA Film Awards and a SAG Award. Its availability in additional international markets will be announced at a later date. Also available to stream on Paramount+ is the original Gladiator, which in the 28 days following the sequel’s release, saw a 96% lift in viewership on the platform.

Starring Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington and more, Gladiator II continues an epic saga of power, intrigue, and vengeance set in ancient Rome. Years after witnessing the death of the revered hero Maximus at the hands of his uncle, Lucius (Mescal) is forced to enter the Colosseum after his home is conquered by the tyrannical Emperors who now lead Rome with an iron fist. With rage in his heart and the future of the Empire at stake, he must look to his past to find strength and honor to return the glory of Rome to its people.

Named one of the National Board of Review’s Top Ten Films of 2024, the film also stars Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Lior Raz, Derek Jacobi and Connie Nielsen. David Scarpa penned the script from his story conceived with Peter Craig, which was based on characters created by David Franzoni. Douglas Wick, Scott, Lucy Fisher, Michael Pruss and Franzoni produced, with Walter Parkes, Laurie MacDonald, Raymond Kirk and Aidan Elliott exec producing.
