By now, you've probably seen that bewildering and unintentionally funny interview moment about Cynthia Erivo singing "Defying Gravity" in Wicked.
If not, in a recent conversation for Out magazine, reporter Tracy E. Gilchrist told Cynthia how "people are taking the lyrics of 'Defying Gravity' and really holding space with that and feeling power in that.”
Cynthia was immediately overrun with emotion. "I didn’t know that that was happening," she said, putting her hand over her chest.
"That's really powerful," she said, appearing shocked as she turned to her Wicked costar Ariana Grande. "That's what I wanted." Ariana consoled Cynthia by wrapping her hand around a single fingernail.
"I don’t know how widespread [it is]," Tracy said, "but I’m in queer media, so." Cynthia replied, "That's really cool."
The whole thing was very strange.
