“Friends” Game Show Announced at Max, Featuring Challenges Inside the Sitcom's Most Iconic Locations

'Fast Friends,' a new four-part game show, will see fans compete in trivia, puzzles, and games to win the title of Ultimate Friends Fan

Could this be any more exciting? Friends fans can now take their love for the show to the next level!

Max announced on Monday, Sept. 23 that they have green-lit a new Friends competition game show set at the New York City flagship Friends Experience. Fast Friends will bring in fans to compete across the “18 nostalgia-filled rooms, activations, and recreated sets,” per a press release.

“Fast Friends, a new four-part game show, will take place in the celebrated series’ iconic sets in a fast-paced competition event,” it read. “From racing through Rachel and Monica’s apartment to darting across Joey and Chandler’s bachelor pad and grabbing a coffee at Central Perk, fans will re-live their favorite moments while being put to the test with trivia, puzzles, and games that will keep even the most die-hard Friends fans on their toes. The quickest team will win the title of Ultimate Friends Fan.”

Fast Friends will be executive-produced by Dan Sacks, Bridgette Theriault and Dan Norris, with Richard Burgio as co-executive producer.

In honor of the 30th anniversary of the sitcom's premiere, the streaming service will also be enhancing content on the app and adding bonus featurettes, including Friends From The Start, where “the creative team discusses the development and casting of Friends while reflecting on the challenges that arose during the early year,” When Friends Become Family, which “delve[s] into the inspiration and development of some of the most iconic episodes and favorite moments from Friends, and The Legacy of Friends, where “the creative team discusses bringing Friends to an end and reflects on the pop culture influence and lasting legacy of the series.”

Warner Bros. is also set to announce more locations to house The Friends Experience, which is currently in London and opening in Las Vegas, in addition to NYC.

Friends, starring Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer, first aired on Sept. 22, 1994, lasting for 10 seasons until 2004 on NBC. On Sept. 20, series creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane and executive producer Kevin Bright appeared on the Today show to reflect on the iconic series.

“I would imagine it’s kind of what it must feel like when your kid turns 30 and you’re like, ‘How did that happen?’ ” Crane said.

The trio also opened up about the constant requests for a spinoff or revival, especially since many of its viewers weren’t even born yet when the show aired.

“We get that a lot,” Kauffman chimed in. “I get emails about it all the time. Everybody has a great idea, and the great idea is: their kids, grown up, doing a Friends show.”

“Oh, no. No, no, no,” Crane said of the possibility of a reboot.

The cast also recently lost one of their own — Perry was found dead face down in his jacuzzi on Oct. 29, 2023. A medical examiner determined the actor died of "acute effects of ketamine" — and the creators said his absence would leave viewers feeling like something was missing on a reboot.

“He’d been fighting the good fight for so long,” Bright said of the actor’s struggle with substance abuse, “and it really did feel like, from the [2021] reunion, that he had finally found some peace.”

“It’s a huge loss, and it does make the 30th a little fraught,” Kauffman added.

For now, Friends fans will have to relive the joys of the show through The Friends Experiences and 30th anniversary bonus content. Friends can also be streamed on Max.
