Former Sunrise host Kochie teases joint project with Today's Karl Stefanovic

They spent 14 years hosting rival breakfast TV shows, but now former Sunrise anchor David ‘Kochie’ Koch and Today star Karl Stefanovic might be joining forces for a new project.

During a recent interview on the Something To Talk About podcast, Kochie spoke openly about his relationship with Karl over the years and admitted they barely knew each other despite running in similar circles.

However, they’ve grown much closer since Kochie retired from Sunrise in May and might even start working together on a surprising joint venture.

“Would you believe the two weeks after finishing at Sunrise, Karl and I and Nat [Barr] had lunch together,” he told host Sarrah Le Marquand.

“I’ve come across Karl a number of times at different functions and the odd Logies I’d go to - really nice bloke, incredibly respectful, didn’t know him much at all.

“So we had lunch together and he’s talking about wanting to do a podcast together, funnily enough, so something might come of it. He’s a really genuine guy.”

'I feel like a new man'

Elsewhere in the interview, Kochie shared how his life has changed since leaving Sunrise over two months ago.

“I feel like a new man,” Kochie remarked. “Able to work business hours and get up at a normal time, Lib and I will walk along the beach or I’ll go to the gym before going into work. It's a whole new way of life.

“I’ve had my family businesses for all that time when I’d finish Sunrise mid-morning and go into the businesses, and it was just time to get a bit more flexibility.

“My greatest fear was that on that last show, I would think, ‘What the hell have I done?’. But I didn't have any of that. It was just right.”

The 67-year-old was the longest-serving breakfast TV host in Australian history and has since been replaced by former Olympian Matt ‘Shirvo’ Shirvington.
