Former Sunrise host Kochie takes a swipe at Karl Stefanovic's Logies joke: 'Vicious'

Former Sunrise host David 'Kochie' Koch has taken a swipe at Today host Karl Stefanovic's brutal Logies joke, which left the audience baffled at the time.

Kochie appeared on Sunrise and The Morning Show on Wednesday to share the exciting news of his new role with Compare the Market, with the former host using his time to take a jab at Karl.

Speaking about Logies host Sam Pang and his opening monologue, he told Kylie Gillies and Matt Doran: "He did such a great job and the gags were really good. Sam is really clever because he never makes them vicious or personal or whatever. It was just a wonderful night.

"A bit different to Karl's sense of humour."

The hosts quickly moved the conversation to Kochie's new job, clearly not keen to spend too much time talking about a rival network host.

At the time of the Logies, viewers noted that Karl's dig "missed the mark by miles", with many saying the joke wasn't good.

Earlier in the night, Kochie had mentioned on-stage that he loves the Australian Stan TV series Bump, with Karl deciding to make a controversial joke about the confession.

The popular TV presenter took to the stage for the In Memoriam segment when he took aim at retired Kochie.

“I did also want to just check something, I am pretty sure before I heard Kochie say he loves Bumps…season 3. Did anyone mishear that? Because I am pretty sure I did. Anyway, those are the headlines tomorrow morning,” Karl said.

Kochie looked less than impressed, appearing to need someone to explain the random dig to him.

Later in the show, host Sam Pang blasted Karl for the joke, saying: "I don't want to say that Karl Stefanovic's joke about Kochie sank...but OceanGate is offering expeditions to visit it.”

People online were less bewildered by Karl’s quip, with one person writing: “Kochie looking genuinely confused and annoyed.”

“Karl making 'bump' innuendos. Ah the #Logies what a thoroughfare of Australia's best talent,” another viewer said.

Kochie's new gig

Kochie is the newly appointed Economic Director for Compare the Market and is set to lead research and campaign to tackle the cost of living crisis.

"When Compare the Market approached me to be involved with the team, it just seemed a natural fit," Kochie said in a statement. "Libby is the household budget guru within the Koch family. She has been using Compare the Market for 10 years, she's like a Compare the Market disciple.

"So, when I went home and said, 'Hey, Compare the Market want me to be associated with them?' She went, ‘Perfect, I know it backwards.'"

Speaking with Nat Barr and Matt 'Shirvo' Shirvington, Kochie said he was enjoying his sleep-ins since finishing up on the show.

"I am, I feel like a new man," he said. "I'm not sure Lib is enjoying me being awake so late at night because it interrupts all of her shows. She still keeps the zapper and goes, 'Nick off, you can't control that.'"
