Former Disney Channel Star Shot In The Eye During Clay Pigeon Shooting
Actor Christy Carlson Romano said she was shot in the face while taking her husband clay pigeon shooting in Austin, Texas.
“So I got shot in the eye,” Romano, who is known for her roles in “Even Stevens” and “Kim Possible,” said Saturday in a video posted on Instagram. “It was not fun.”
In the video, Romano shows off the wound under her right eye. Her eye appears to be bloodshot as well. She said in the video that she is safe but that there is still a “fragment” inside her cheek and forehead.
In the video’s caption, Romano said she and her husband were celebrating his birthday when another party “unsafely fired in the wrong direction” and shot Romano in the face. She said her husband “sprung into action” and “assessed” her, and then they went to the hospital.
“I was hit in 5 places, one was less than an inch from hitting me directly in my right eye,” Romano wrote in the caption.
She continued: “Unfortunately a fragment got lodged behind my eye and it is too risky to remove surgically at this time. Doctors will continue to monitor me (I can see normally at the moment).”
“With everything that happened, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive. I love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much. I saw my life flash before my eyes and I’m telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant,” she wrote along with a praying hands emoji.
In the video, Romano said she was grateful for the first responders, who are “the most superhero-like people.”
“I got to say I got shot in the face and lived to tell the tale,” she said. “Be grateful for every day.”
Brendan Rooney, Romano’s husband, shared a photo on Instagram of Romano in the hospital flipping off the camera.
“My wife gets shot, I ask to take a picture for the record, she flips me the bird and smiles (she nearly lost her eye mind you). When they say there’s no such thing as, ‘The One’ they lie…,” Rooney wrote in the caption. “I love you so much and I’m so grateful you’re safe and that you’re going to be okay. I will be by your side forever.”
Romano competed on Season 3 of Fox’s “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test,” a reality competition show in which celebrities train with a team of ex-Special Forces members, and made it through eight episodes.
