Foodies divided after learning ‘correct way’ to eat Nutella: ‘Mind blown’

A man has taken to Reddit to share the ‘correct way’ to eat a jar of Nutella, adding that it works “time and time again”.

He explains that his girlfriend taught him that the trick is to only take the chocolate spread from the centre of the jar to empty it completely.

“If you only take from the centre of the Nutella jar, the thickness of the Nutella stuck to the glass will pull it down. This will cause the sides to be perfectly clean by the next day,” he wrote.

“I suspect it is because of the cohesion of the Nutella pulling down the remains, and/or the thickness keeping the residue from drying out and sticking to the glass.

“Either way, I was surprised to see her trick works really well. No endless scratching to get the remains out by the end, except for the very bottom. Mind blown.”

A number of users applauded the man and his girlfriend for sharing their hack, saying that they are “solving the real issues here”.

“I just got a new large jar of Nutella and I am pretty hyped to try this,” another added.

“Are you sure your girlfriend isn't just secretly scraping the sides and eating the Nutella behind your back?” someone else remarked, while a third quipped, “Wait, are you guys getting two days per jar?”.

People also suggested other ways to enjoy Nutella and avoid it getting stuck to the sides of the jar.

“I say don't worry about the edges. Once you get to the scraping stage, fill the jar with milk and shake it up. Now you have Nutella milk,” one person wrote.

“Silicone spatulas are the one true way to empty any condiment jar,” another counter-acted.

A different user, however, shared that the helpful hack doesn’t work on most Nutellas outside of the US because of the varying ingredients used.

“Every country has slightly different ingredients for Nutella due to food regulations and preferences, which makes US Nutella more creamy and soft,” they said.

Others pointed out that the trick wouldn’t work for the Italian and Indian Nutellas because they are very thick, but it was a success with German, Belgian and UK versions of the spread.

“I guess I now have to order and eat all the various international versions of Nutella in the name of science,” someone joked.
