Flavor Flav Was 'Shocked' to Be Named One of PEOPLE's Sexiest Men Alive: 'I Don't Feel I'm Sexy'

Flavor Flav was pleasantly surprised to make this superlative.

In an interview with Rolling Stone that was published on Dec. 30, the "Fight The Power" singer spoke about being among the celebrities in their 60s for PEOPLE's 2024 Sexiest Man Alive issue.

When asked if he was surprised to be among "Denzel Washington and Andy Garcia" for the Sexy at Every Age list, Flav, 65, said he was indeed shocked.

"It surprised me big because I don’t feel I’m sexy. I was shocked to see it," he said.

The rapper then recalled a time where a woman called him "ugly" and asked to take a picture with him: "There was a lady that came up to me in the airport and said, 'Ooh, Flavor Flav. You so ugly, but I want to take a picture with you.' And you know what I did? I said, 'Okay, come on. Take the picture. Let’s go.'"

"I did not offend her back or anything," added Flav, noting he was "told by some people that I was ugly."

The Public Enemy rapper responded online to the comments from December with a picture of him in PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive issue. "People Magazine says otherwise,,, calling me one of the Sexiest Men at any age," he wrote. "Good guy,,, good heart,,, goes a long way. Something you wouldn’t know anything about."

Overall, Flav's mention in the PEOPLE SMA list made him "feel real good inside."

"I’m like, 'Wow, how can I be one of the sexiest men alive? You can’t even see my eyes. I got on sunglasses.' But, hey, I ain’t going to lie. I’ll take it," he told Rolling Stone.

Perhaps the secret to being part of PEOPLE's Sexiest Men Alive is smelling good. In October, Flav told PEOPLE he has been wearing the same cologne for over 50 years.

"Everybody should want to smell fresh from [their] underarms all the way down to [their] toes," he said at the time.

"When I was a kid, my dad used to always keep Old Spice in the cabinet in the bathroom. So that was the cologne that I used to wear when I used to go to school in the fourth grade." He's relied on the brand since.
