‘Family Guy’ to Return to Adult Swim’s Weekday Lineup in 2025

“Family Guy” is returning to Adult Swim.

The long-running Seth MacFarlane animated series will make its return to the late night programming block in 2025, kicking off with a three-day marathon starting on Jan. 1, with back-to-back episodes airing from 7 p.m. ET/PT to 5 a.m. Episodes will then air every weeknight from 10:00 – 11:30pm ET/PT thereafter.

“Family Guy” originally premiered on Fox in 1999, but it was canceled after just three seasons due to low ratings. The then nascent Adult Swim began airing reruns of the series, drawing substantial ratings. That coupled with DVD box set sales led to Fox reviving the show in 2005. It is now on its 23rd season, having premiered a holiday special on Hulu Oct. 14 and then another on Nov. 25. The remainder of the season is scheduled to premiere on Fox in 2025.

“Family Guy” had left Adult Swim after its license expired in 2021, with reruns then moving to FXX, which became the show’s exclusive cable home for its off-network run. The new agreement with Adult Swim is non-exclusive, meaning reruns can continue to air elsewhere.

“Family Guy” focuses on the adventures of the dysfunctional and peculiar Griffin family. Peter (MacFarlane) lives in a perpetual state of ignorance-is-bliss with his stay-at-home wife Lois (Alexandrea Borstein) in their Quahog, Rhode Island house. They have three kids: Meg (Mila Kunis), the social outcast; Chris (Seth Green), the awkward teenage boy; and Stewie (MacFarlane), the murder-inclined genius baby. There is also Brian (MacFarlane), the cocktail-sipping talking dog.

“Adult Swim is a huge part of Family Guy’s early history, and we’re excited for the series to return to our lineup in 2025,” said Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim. “Having ‘Family Guy’ back on our air is a great complement to the amazing slate of animated originals we also have planned for next year.”
