All ‘Eyes’ Are on Jill Biden in Schiaparelli’s Suit With Bijoux Buttons for Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum’s Inauguration

U.S. First Lady Jill Biden was among the dignitaries and distinguished guests who attended the inauguration of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum in Mexico on Tuesday. Sheinbaum, an environmental scientist and former mayor of Mexico City, is the country’s first female president.

For the historic occasion, the first lady of the U.S. styled a look courtesy of Schiaparelli. Biden opted for a black jacket and pencil skirt with bijoux gold buttons running down the front placket of the jacket and skirt. Beneath the jacket’s lapel is the brand’s Surrealist Eye button that’s worn unfolded.

The tailored look featured elements of subdued elegance, while marrying the all-black attire with gold embellishments for a touch of modernity. The Italian haute couture house look was a stark contrast to the attire Biden wore upon her arrival to Mexico on Monday.

Upon touching down in Mexico just a day prior to the inauguration, Biden was seen in a fiery red suit courtesy of Theory. The look featured a single-breasted blazer with tailored trousers and a coordinated blouse.

Biden often favors Schiaparelli for high-profile occasions. The first lady previously wore a design from the fashion house during a visit to France last July, opting for another fiery red hue to contrast the nautical-inspired attire worn by France’s first lady, Brigitte Macron.

During another trip to France last June, Biden wore a formal gown by Schiaparelli for the state dinner. The velvet navy dress featured a bateau-neck and dramatic white sash, which billowed into a sweeping train. Biden accessorized with coordinated navy pumps and stylish drop earrings.

Along with her proclivity for Schiaparelli’s designs, Biden recently demonstrated her appreciation for suited attire during a string of events over the course of the last several weeks. Among her suited looks, Biden embraced her power suiting era at Ralph Lauren’s New York Fashion Week spring 2025 party earlier this month, wearing the Ralph Lauren Collection’s Beckman blazer.
