Everything Jessica Simpson Has Shared About Her Three Kids
She shares Maxwell "Maxi" Drew, Ace Knute, and Birdie Mae with her ex Eric Johnson.
Despite the fact that Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson are going their separate ways, the pair still share one very important bond: their three children. Born between 2012 and 2019, Maxwell "Maxi" Drew, Ace Knute, and Birdie Mae are the parents's priority amid divorce proceedings, according to People.
"Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage," Simpson said in a statement. "Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family."
Raised in Los Angeles, the siblings have grown up in the shadow of their mom's music career, which shot her to fame in the early aughts for hits like "I Wanna Love You Forever" and "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'." She also starred in movies like The Dukes of Hazzard and, of course, her own reality T.V. show, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. After splitting with Nick Lachey in 2005 and meeting Johnson in 2010, the couple soon became parents. Here's everything you should know about their three kids, Maxwell "Maxi" Drew, Ace Knute, and Birdie Mae.
Maxwell "Maxi" Drew
Simpson's eldest daughter was born on May 1, 2012, and named after two family members: her dad, whose middle name is Maxwell, and Simpson's mom, whose maiden name is Drew.
“Eric and I are elated to announce the birth of our baby girl, Maxwell Drew Johnson,” Simpson said. “We are grateful for all the love, support and prayers we have received. This has been the greatest experience of our lives!!”
Simpson and Johnson were engaged at the time after the ex-NFL player proposed in 2010; in 2014, they tied the knot at the San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California.
"On May 1, 2012, my first born, Maxwell Drew Johnson arrived into this life as a sentient being seemingly not of this world," Simpson wrote on Instagram in a birthday tribute in 2023. "In the purest of form, her mind heart and soul ascended from the grace of heaven to shine in profound ways...You are mesmerizing, steadfast, intelligent, passionate, generous, loving, devoted, inspiring, enticing, confident, empathetic, powerful, intuitive, beautiful, DETERMINED, enlightened and FULL OF WONDER. The faith of a child is what keeps all of us ALIVE."
Ace Knute
Simpson and Johnson's second child was also present at their 2014 nuptials. Born on June 30, 2013, Ace Knute is now 11 years old.
“I’m so excited to have a son,” Simpson said at the time. “I didn’t grow up with a brother and I think the unknown is really exciting. I can’t wait to have that connection with our little man.”
Eight years later, Simpson was more than happy to gush about her son on Instagram: "When Ace was in my belly I told everyone and anyone who’d listen that he would dominate a baseball field when he was old enough and would more than likely never ever end up putting the bat down...so far my intuition was correct. This kiddo is SO naturally gifted, laser focused, instinctual, bats the ball out of the park, pitches strike outs, and owns his confidence with a humble grin."
Birdie Mae
Born roughly one year before the COVID-19 pandemic, Birdie Mae is the youngest of the couple's three kids. On March 20, Simpson announced her arrival on Twitter, sharing her name, date of birth (March 19, 2019) and weight (10 pounds 13 ounces).
“This little baby girl will make us a family of five,” the singer wrote on Instagram when she revealed her pregnancy. “We couldn’t be happier to announce this precious blessing of life.”
