Elton John Shares Huge Surprise Career Update Welcoming ‘Another Era’ as Health Struggles Continue
Elton John isn't letting his health challenges stand in the way of making music.
The Grammy winner and Brandi Carlile are joining forces on a new studio album, Who Believes In Angels?, set for release on April 4 via Interscope Records, per The Hollywood Reporter.
“This record was one of the toughest I’ve ever made, but it was also one of the greatest musical experiences of my life,” John said of the album. “It has given me a place where I know I can move forward."
The 77-year-old continued, "Who Believes In Angels? feels like going into another era and I’m pushing the door open to come into the future. I have everything I’ve done behind me and it’s been brilliant, amazing. But this is the new start for me. As far as I’m concerned, this is the start of my career mark two.”
According to a press release, John and Carlile “pushed each other out of their comfort zones to write and record an album completely from scratch in just 20 days."
“I’m still reeling from the fact that I got to do it," Carlile said. "I think all ships rise with Elton John’s standards for songwriting, and it was an incredibly challenging and inspiring environment to work in, everybody throwing in ideas, everybody listening to everybody else’s ideas. It felt like a family."
She added, "The world is a wild place to live in right now. It’s hard to find peace and triumph. It’s a radical act to seek out joyful and euphoric happenings. And that is what this album represents to me.”

John's longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin and Grammy-winning producer and songwriter Andrew Watt also contributed to the album, which features musicians Josh Klinghoffer (Pearl Jam, Beck), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Pino Palladino (Nine Inch Nails, Gary Numan and David Gilmour).
In September, John revealed that his eyesight was impacted by a serious eye infection.
"I have been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye," he wrote on Instagram at the time.
“I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye."
John went on to kid about his impaired eyesight at the 2025 Golden Globes, quipping that his condition had been overblown by the media before turning to Carlile, his co-presenter, and jokingly calling her Rihanna.
