Ed Westwick Talks New Show, Anuel AA Lets Slip New Album Plans at Amiri

Mike Amiri set the stage for his fall collection with a luxe lounge.

Ed Westwick embodied the louche vibe in a checkered suit complete with wide lapels. “I’m like out of the 1970s, I’ve got a little flare going off,” he said of his bell-bottom trousers.

Amiri made it moody with cocktail tables, low lights, and plenty of velvet. Waiters made the rounds with shots.

“This might be the best setup I’ve been to. I’m pleasantly surprised. I always wonder how people are going to keep it fresh after so many shows, after so many years. But this does feel fresh. I love the French cocktail speakeasy jazz bar Moulin Rouge [décor],” he said, summing up the mood with a flurry of adjectives.

Westwick usually hits up a show or two each season. The actor was honest about how he is feeling the effects of time as he nears his fourth decade.

“I’m getting older, so I feel less and less cool by the day,” he said. “Somebody picked the outfit, somebody did my hair, somebody did my makeup, and so I get to feel relevant.”

But he’s still on the screen and has a new show called “Sandokan” which will premiere in September. It’s the remake of a cult Italian TV series from the 1970s, and based on a 19th-century novel.

Westwick plays the titular character of the swashbuckling adventure.

“He’s an opium-addicted pirate hunter — so very different from my day-to-day life, but nonetheless, exciting and entertaining. And it’s a family show, even though I just mentioned opium,” he said of the action series.

He was careful to clarify there was no method acting here. “I didn’t smoke opium” to get into the role, he assured.

“It was one of those parts. I’ve had a few of them in my life that really kind of came off the page. My imagination ran wild, and once I put the boots on with the outfit and my sword, I was ready.”

Puerto Rican rapper Anuel AA teased his new album, which he said will be ready for release in two to three months.

“I haven’t even told nobody yet, so I know this is gonna be everywhere,” he said of letting the secret slip to WWD. His last album debuted at number one on Billboard’s Latin Album and Latin Rhythm charts.

He’s a longtime fan of the Amiri brand, and a friend of designer Mike Amiri. He said that his look — a black velvet suit — was originally intended for the runway but he loved it so much that Amiri let him wear it.

“Mike looked at me and said, ‘That’s a million-dollar outfit,’” he said. “Mike is always blessing me. I’m his special brother. Every time it’s better than the last time, it’s the highest level in the game.”

And play Amiri did, with football star Stefon Diggs, “Pose” star Jeremy Pope and K-pop star Sunwoo in the front row, while models walked to Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” and other sexy ’70s funk.
